Coaching with a Quality Driven Hospitalist

Dr. Erkeda DeRouen talks to Dr. Trina Dorrah, an internal medicine hospitalist and life coach. In this episode, Dr. Dorrah discusses her journey towards being both a physician and coach and how coaching can help physicians and medical students in their careers.

What is a Hospitalist?

A hospitalist is stationed in the hospital. As an internal medicine hospitalist, whenever the ER decides to admit a patient to the hospital or if a clinic physician wants to directly admit their patients to the hospital, they call up hospitalists to get them admitted and act as their primary physicians to take care of their entire hospitalization.

How Could a Medical Student Benefit from Coaching?

A common way coaches help physicians and medical students is with their burnout. Coaching can help medical students with the mindset of staying strong, continuing to pursue their dreams, and leaving medical school with their mental health intact. There have been cases of both practicing physicians and medical students committing suicide and Dr. Dorrah aims to reach people and give them tools and skills to thrive before they get to that point of hopelessness in the midst of their difficult journey towards a career in medicine.
